When animals in need are signed over to our hospital, we do everything we can to save their lives. Sometimes we have to absorb most to all of the medical cost in order to help the animal.
This fund was created when a special dog, "Leroy" that was hit by a car, was signed over to our hospital because of financial/behavior concerns. For 3 months he underwent 7 separate surgeries, was transported to Springfield Referral/Emergency hospital twice for additional care, was under constant observation, given daily medications, every other day bandage changes, and was also taken home by multiple members of our staff over the weekends and the recent holidays. Since we brought "Leroy" into our hospital family, he has transformed into a wonderful dog.
We are hoping that The Leroy Fund can help other animals, like Leroy, who are in need of extensive medical care and lots of love.
Please donate to The Leroy Fund so that we can continue to treat animals in need and give them the care and love they deserve! Feel free to call if you would like more information or to make a payment via credit card over the phone. Thank you!!

The Story of "Leroy"
Stats
Name: Leroy
Age: 2 yr. 3 mon.
Forward
Once a happy-go-lucky dog, Leroy had no idea that on a rainy November day in 2004 his life would be changed forever.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Chapter 1
It was a dark and stormy day; three days before Thanksgiving. As the clock struck
Chapter 2
As time passed, the doctors and staff began to realize that Leroy was a very high maintenance dog. Every day he would irritate his leg a little more, until finally he went all the way. Leroy chewed open his leg. When his owner brought him in for the 10th time we all knew that he would soon become everybody's dog. As Leroy's owner signed the papers giving us full custody of him, our spirits lifted because we knew that he would now be able to get the adequate care he deserved.
Chapter 3
As the days in December melted away, we all knew that Leroy was a "special needs" pup. During the healing process, he was required to wear his e-collar and basket muzzle. His leg was never uncovered for more than 10 minutes at a time, and that’s only when it was changed.
Soon the wound healed up enough that the sutures would be able to come out in the near future. As the days passed, the wound got smaller and smaller and the doctors and staff got prouder and prouder that the job they had done was successful.
Chapter 4
On a beautiful, sunny December day, tragedy struck the hospital. While relaxing in an exam room on his comfortable bed, Leroy decided that he was bored. After five minutes, the staff checked on him and saw the horror picture that was before them. Leroy chewed open his incision and devoured part of his thigh muscle. He was immediately rushed to Springfield Referral
Hospital and they sutured up his reopened wound. Leroy could never be left alone again.
Chapter 5
After a while, everybody forgot about Leroy's "relapse" and began loving him again. He would go on mini-vacations to different staff member’s houses and get to interact with all sorts on interesting people and animals.
As December turned into January, Leroy's leg looked better every day. However, the staff refused to be fooled by Leroy again and he was still under constant supervision and restraint.
Soon came the time that the sutures could be removed from his reopened wound. Slowly, but surely Leroy's leg began to return to normal.
Chapter 6
Soon a new fangled bandage was made from a six-foot metal rod formed to fit Leroy's leg. Changed every 3-4 days, the new "splint" turned out to be Leroy's saving grace. Although it disabled his leg, and gave him a little bit of a "giddy up" in his step, it worked like a charm.
Chapter 7
Soon enough, it was time for a genetically engineered piece of Pig's bladder was applied to the existing wound. As the days passed the area became smaller and smaller just as it had before. But this time, the wound healed to a smaller size
then it had ever been before! The doctors and staff were utterly amazed at the miracle before them. Never before had something so terrible become such a beautiful thing.
Chapter 8
All of the doctors and staff thought that seeing Leroy wear his e-collar and basket muzzle was one of the funniest sights they had ever seen. However, they were all stunned the day that they saw Leroy trotting around in his red "Super dog" suit. The suit enabled him to move freely without a large bandage, basket muzzle or e-collar, but still protect his leg from his incessant tongue.
Chapter 9
One warm and sunny day in the beginning of March, the staff arrived to see a beautiful sight. Leroy's leg had completely healed from its wounds! As Leroy's "Super dog" suit was removed, it was like the sun rays shined directly on the scar from the once hideous wound.
That same day, a loving man called and inquired as to whether or not Leroy was still available for adoption. We replied that he was, and the couple immediately came down to pick up Leroy and take him to his new foster home.
Chapter 10
Leroy was doing very well in his foster home, and frequently stayed at the hospital while his surrogate parents worked and ran errands. He was doing extremely well in his new environment and had become a loving part of the family.
After staying a whole week with the doctors and staff while his surrogate parents were on vacation, he was ecstatic to learn that when they returned home, he would go home with them for good.
