Fort Hunt Animal Hospital provides
quality animal care services,
as well as clean and safe boarding facilities.

We provide comprehensive medical, surgical and other services for dogs, cats and exotics. We use the most advanced medical equipment and computer technology to aid in providing the best possible care for your pet.

  • Surgery
We have a modern operating room, skilled surgeons and state-of-the-art equipment.
Laser surgery is a rapidly growing aspect of our practice.
  • Dental Care
We are equipped to care for your pet's dental needs, using dental ultrasonic scaling and dental x-rays.
  • Ultra Sound
Used extensively in human medicine, this non-invasive technology is extremely helpful in allowing the doctor to visualize the body's internal organs.
  • Radiology
We have a modern x-ray machine, capable of producing excellent quality radiographs. Widely used to help define many medical and surgical problems, radiographs are an extremely valuable diagnostic tool.

Other Services Include:

  • Anesthesia and Pain Management
Our doctors use the most up-to-date and safest anesthetic drugs. We use isoflurane anesthetic gas, which is also used extensively in human hospitals. Your pet's post-operative comfort needs are closely monitored - they receive the most effective pain medications available.
  • Telemedicine
Using the internet, we have the technology to send x-rays and other diagnostic information to specialists all over the country. Within a few hours, our doctors can receive expert second opinions for difficult medical cases.
  • Wellness Exams and Immunizations
Pets can live longer, healthier lives with proper preventive health care. Annual physical exams are recommended for every pet. Many times, subtle health problems, such as dental disease or glaucoma are discovered by the doctor during a physical exam. If diagnosed early, many problems can be reversed or controlled easily. Immunizations to protect your pet against respiratory and intestinal diseases, and along with heartworm, flea and tick control are an important part of preventive health care for dogs and cats.
  • Laboratory
We have a full service in-house laboratory, which allows us to obtain rapid, accurate information about your pet's health. Blood testing can identify many health problems, including infection, anemia, liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, thyroid disease and cancer.
  • Pharmacy
For your convenience, we have an extensive inventory of veterinary drugs, supplies, medications, prescription foods and nutritional supplements.
  • Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery
We treat a variety of exotic small animals, ranging from hamsters, ferrets and rabbits, to parakeets and parrots.
  • Grooming
Healthy skin care for dogs and cats requires regular bathing. We offer a variety of moisturizing and flea shampoo baths, along with prescription topical treatments for pets with special skin conditions. Our grooming package includes a bath with a moisturizing shampoo, a nail trim, a thorough brush out and a topical application of a flea/tick preventive.

Our indoor kennel provides a safe, clean comfortable environment for your pet while you are away. Our feline friends stay in a separate area we call "Cat Land!"

Our canines are fed a prescription bland diet from either Hill's Science Diet and/or Eukanuba and our felines are fed Proplan. We can also feed an owner provided food if preferred. Favorite toys or blankets are certainly allowed, but due to the high amount of toys, blankets and towels we have to provide for pets, their personal belongings may get mixed in with our kennel supply. Exotic pets are also welcome. Please call for a tour of our facility.

Every pet checking in for boarding must be up-to-date on the following vaccines:

*Proof of current vaccinations administered by a licensed veterinarian is required at drop-off. If you administer your own DHLPP/FVRCP and/or Bordetella vaccines, we require that you provide us with proof of purchase via receipt and/or vaccine stickers. If proof is not available, your pet will be examined by a doctor, and required vaccinations will be given at owner's expense (wellness exam and vaccinations apply).

Medical Illness/Special Care Boarding
One of the advantages of boarding your pet at a veterinary hospital is that veterinary attention is readily available should the need arise. If your pet becomes ill while boarding, we will call the emergency number you provide regarding your pet's symptoms and treatment options. We are prepared to care for pets with special needs, such as insulin injections for diabetics, or giving daily oral medications. Please bring medications labeled with your pet's name, drug name and dosage. If your pet is diabetic and requires daily insulin, please provide that insulin, syringes and the proper daily dosage for your pet. There is a daily fee to administer medications and insulin.

Bathing/Grooming
You may request a bath for your pet on the discharge day, just remember to delay pick-up until 4:00pm (Monday through Friday). Consider taking advantage of our discounted bathing package, which includes a bath, nail trim, thorough brush-out, and a topical flea product application (Frontline or Advantage). Your pet will come home looking great!
